There’s something so comforting about pulling a tray of warm, golden calzones out of the oven. They’re the kind of simple, hearty meal that brings everyone to the kitchen—perfect for a cozy weeknight or when you’ve got a hungry crowd gathered for the game. This version is wonderfully melty, savory, and comes together without any fuss.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound pizza dough
- 1 cup diced cooked ham
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- ½ cup ricotta cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Lightly flour your work surface, then divide the dough into four portions. Roll each one into an 8-inch circle.
- In a mixing bowl, stir together the ham, mozzarella, ricotta, Parmesan, oregano, and garlic powder until well combined.
- Spoon a quarter of the filling onto one half of each dough circle, keeping a small border around the edge.
- Brush the exposed edge of the dough with the beaten egg. Fold the empty side over the filling to form a half-moon, and press the edges together with a fork to seal.
- Arrange the calzones on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with olive oil and cut a tiny slit in each one so steam can escape. Sprinkle a little extra cheese on top if you like.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the calzones are beautifully golden.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving—just enough so you don’t lose any of that glorious, gooey filling.
