Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (14-ounce) can diced tomatoes
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for some heat)
Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
Instructions:
-Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
-Pour in the crushed and diced tomatoes, then add the sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if you want a bit of spice. Stir everything well.
-Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken.
-Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed. If it’s too acidic, you can add a bit more sugar.
-Once your sauce reaches your desired consistency and flavor, remove it from the heat.
-Serve your homemade spaghetti sauce over cooked pasta of your choice. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
