- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in milk until a thick batter forms.
- Fold in chopped onions and mix thoroughly to coat evenly.
- Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Drop batter by tablespoons into hot oil, flatten slightly, and fry until golden brown and crisp on both sides.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
Notes
Serve with sour cream or ranch for dipping. A pinch of black pepper or cayenne adds extra flavor.
