Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey or Italian sausage
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce or pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup diced bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, ground turkey, or Italian sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Stir in marinara sauce or pizza sauce and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Add bell peppers, mushrooms, black olives, or any toppings you want softened. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Divide the saucy meat mixture into oven-safe bowls, ramekins, or a small baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over each bowl.
  6. Arrange sliced pepperoni on top of the cheese.
  7. Place bowls on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 8 to 10 minutes, or broil for 2 to 4 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Add Parmesan, red pepper flakes, basil, or extra Italian seasoning if desired.

Notes

For a lighter version, use ground turkey or chicken; for a meatless bowl, use sautéed mushrooms, peppers, onions, and spinach. Let each person customize toppings for an easy family meal.
