Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp thyme optional
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots optional
  • 2 lbs potatoes peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter

Method

  1. Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook 15–20 minutes until tender, then drain.

  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add diced onion and garlic to the beef and cook until softened.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  6. Gradually stir in beef broth, then add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  7. Stir in peas and carrots if using, and cook until heated through.
  8. Serve beef and gravy over mashed potatoes and enjoy hot.

Notes

Add a splash of cream for richer gravy or top with shredded cheese. Substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
