- Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook 15–20 minutes until tender, then drain.
- Mash potatoes with milk and butter until smooth. Season with salt and pepper and keep warm.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add diced onion and garlic to the beef and cook until softened.
- Sprinkle flour over the mixture and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually stir in beef broth, then add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in peas and carrots if using, and cook until heated through.
- Serve beef and gravy over mashed potatoes and enjoy hot.
Notes
Add a splash of cream for richer gravy or top with shredded cheese. Substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
