Method
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- In a bowl, gently combine ground chuck, chopped onion, egg, hot sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Shape into 4–6 patties.
- Dredge each patty lightly in flour and cook until browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.
- Add sliced onions to the skillet and cook until softened and lightly caramelized.
- Whisk together beef broth, water, flour, seasoned salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and browning sauce. Pour into skillet and stir until thickened.
- Return patties to the skillet, add mushrooms if using, and coat with gravy.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes until patties are cooked through and tender.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or vegetables.
Notes
Add breadcrumbs to patties if needed for binding. For variation, try a tomato-based gravy instead of onion gravy.
