  • 1 tbsp onion finely grated
  • 0.33 cup sugar
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 0.25 cup buttermilk shaken
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1.5 tbsp white vinegar
  • 2.5 tbsp lemon juice fresh
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.125 tsp black pepper
  • 8 cups cabbage finely chopped
  • 0.25 cup carrot shredded

Method
 

  1. Whisk together onion, sugar, mayonnaise, buttermilk, milk, vinegar, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  2. Add cabbage and carrot, then toss until fully coated.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  4. Stir well before serving.

Notes

Finely chopping the cabbage is key for authentic texture. Letting it chill longer deepens the flavor and softens the crunch just right.
