Mama’s Cornbread Dressing

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups onions chopped
  • 2 cups celery chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 cups toasted bread finely crumbled
  • 4 cups cornbread finely crumbled
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 tbsp dried sage
  • 2 tsp poultry seasoning
  • turkey broth as needed for moisture
  • 4 eggs beaten

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and grease a large baking dish.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and celery and sauté until tender.
  3. In a large bowl, combine crumbled toasted bread and cornbread.
  4. Add sautéed vegetables with butter, salt, pepper, sage, and poultry seasoning. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Gradually add turkey broth until mixture is very moist but not soupy. Stir in beaten eggs.
  6. Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 30–40 minutes, until golden brown on top.

Notes

Add cooked sausage or diced turkey for variation. For extra moisture, drizzle additional broth before baking.
