Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter 1 stick
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour or cake flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups peaches peeled and sliced

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place butter in a 9x13-inch baking dish and put in oven to melt.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and sugar to form a smooth batter.
  3. Carefully remove the hot dish from the oven. Pour batter evenly over the melted butter without stirring.
  4. Spoon peaches and their juices evenly over the batter.
  5. Bake for about 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the batter has risen around the fruit.
  6. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use canned or frozen peaches if fresh aren’t available. Add a pinch of cinnamon for extra warmth.
