  • 24 oz ribeye steak 2-inch thick, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter

Method

  1. Pat the ribeye steak dry with paper towels and season evenly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and add canola oil until hot.
  3. Place steak in the pan and sear for about 3 minutes per side until a dark crust forms.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add butter, garlic, thyme, and rosemary to the pan.
  5. Tilt the pan and spoon melted butter over the steak continuously for about 2 minutes, flipping to baste both sides.
  6. Remove steak from pan and let rest on a cutting board for at least 16 minutes.
  7. Slice into pieces and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use a meat thermometer to reach your preferred doneness. Pair with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
