Slow Cooker Spiced Cracker Barrel-Style Fried Apples

There’s something so comforting about a pot of softly simmering apples filling the house with warm spices. This version brings all the charm of those beloved country-style fried apples, but with the ease of a slow cooker. The apples turn perfectly tender, bathed in a buttery, cinnamon-kissed glaze that feels right at home on a holiday table—or just alongside a simple weeknight meal when you’re craving something warm and familiar.

Ingredients

  • 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Place the prepared apple slices in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Sprinkle the dry mixture evenly over the apples.
  4. Pour the melted butter over the top, followed by the lemon juice and vanilla.
  5. Give everything a gentle toss so the apples are nicely coated.
  6. Cover and cook on high for 2–3 hours, or until the apples are soft, glossy, and beautifully caramelized.
